Huis Van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh heeft tussen 1879 en 1880 nabij Bergen
gewoond in het 'la Maison dus Marais', ofwel het 'Huis in het moeras'.
Hoewel hij hier niet veel kunstwerken heeft geproduceerd, is dit toch een
erg belangrijke plek in zijn leven geweest. Hier heeft Vincent namelijke
besloten zijn leven te wijden aan de schilderkunst en geen dominee meer
te worden. Dit huisje is in de jaren '70 gered van de instorting en is
recent opgeknapt en geopend voor bezoekers.
Verwacht hier niet een huis vol werken van Van Gogh, er hangt
slechts één originele tekening van hem. Er hangen vooral
reproducties van zijn werken en is er een uitgebreide documentatie over
zijn leven en werk, met o.a. brieven van de kunstenaar. Vooral bedoeld
voor de échte Van Gogh bewonderaar!
Let Op! Het Huis Van Gogh is 's middags van dinsdag tot en
met zaterdag gesloten tussen 12.30 en 13.30 uur, op zondag van 12.00 tot
14.00 uur.
During his days as a none-too-successful church missionary,
the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh lived in 1879 and 1880 in this miner's
house in the Borinage coal-mining district. He preached the gospel to the
mining families, while painting and drawing them and the bleak countryside.
The house has been restored as a monument, with documents and an audiovisual
presentation.

Vincent Van Gogh affirmait que le Borinage est aussi
pittoresque que le Vieux Venise, l’Arabie et la Bretagne
La maison cuesmoise où il vécut, d’août
1879 à octobre 1880, a été sauvée de la ruine
dans les années 1970 et est à présent accessible au
public. Elle peut être considérée comme l'une des "balises"
incontournables du parcours Van Gogh en Europe.
