We see Rembrandts tough battle to survive, his remorseless fall from
grace when his work went out of fashion. Once the king of Amsterdam’s elite,
he became a pariah, hated and taunted by his jealous colleagues and deceived
by art dealers. Despite all this opposition, the solitary master laboured
on, faithful to his great talent and determined not to succumb to the whims
of the Lords of the Canals.
On 15th July 2006, Rembrandt the Musical will open at the fully renovated
Royal Carré Theatre. More than a century ago, in 1887, circus director
Oscar Carré welcomed the first audiences to his famous circus theatre.
Since then, more than 27 million theatre lovers have found their way to
the "Grande Dame" on the Amstel.
